Key-vote alert: HR 351, LNG Permitting Reform
Vote h50-2015

Description

This week the House will vote on H.R. 351, the LNG Permitting Certainty and Transparency Act, which would expedite the approval of liquefied natural gas (LNG) export projects.

The rapid expansion of domestic natural gas production brought on by advances in technology has helped the U.S. become and remain the largest natural gas producer in the world. High global demand for natural gas has created a strong market for American energy, but thus far our ability to feed this market has been hamstrung by bureaucratic red tape that has slowed the approval of export facilities that are needed to get the natural gas to willing buyers. This delay also has national security implications because Russia and others have used energy access as a weapon.

This legislation would help speed up the process by placing a 30-day deadline for the Department of Energy to issue a final decision on construction applications of these export facilities after the NEPA environmental review is complete.

Not only will this reform produce economic benefits, including new construction jobs, but it will also play a critical role in shaping our relationship with allies overseas who are dependent on countries like Russia for their natural gas supply.

The American Energy Alliance supports H.R. 351 and will include it in our American Energy Scorecard. YES IS THE PRO-ENERGY, PRO-TRADE, AND PRO-FREE MARKET VOTE.
